High Level Interface (HLI) - Electrical Metering Data

High Level Interface (HLI) – The connectivity barrier to electrical metering data

By SATEC (Australia) Pty Ltd | Featured, Industry News | Comments are Closed | 1 October, 2019 | 5

There is a barrier to connectivity to electrical metering data. This is due to 50 year old technology often referred to as a ‘High Level Interface’ or HLI. This is based mostly around the electrical media connection methods in RS-485/422 style networks.

Typically, there is no solution for Cloud Services from direct electrical metering data, segregated by media such as CAT-6, which is what most National Broadband Network (NBN) enabled properties support today in Australia. In most configurations, it is the ‘Master Software Application’ which must initiate or establish communication to the ‘Metering Slave IDs’. In this configuration, complexities exist making data security more rigid with the meters on traditional High Level Interface networks. Thus, electrical metering networks are mostly locked down to single providers.

SATEC are a leader in the era of digital communications. The eXpertConnect technique is a way of the device performing an ‘Automatic Push-to-Cloud’ that is supported on NBN infrastructure, ADSL+2, 3/4G, WifI, etc. The benefit users receive is that it is now possible for users to get access to comprehensive data from SATEC meters easily. Just plug the communications cable into your NBN Modem in one of the RJ-45, as as easy as that the eXpertMeters start talking with the cloud, and data with metering becomes accessible.
