From 2013, the National Measurement Institute (NMI) required electricity meters used for trade purposes, e.g. revenue recovery purposes, required NMI Patent Approval accreditation to the NMI M6-1 newly created standard. Old meters which did not achieve the new quality verification methods, of NMI M6-1 type testing and NMI M6-2 reporting qualifications, were granted Grandfathering Certificates.
Although it is still legal to use Grandfathering Certificates in some jurisdictions, often the problem is that there are limited Grandfathering meters available on the market these days. But mostly, there is no real upgrade path manufacturers provide, other than replacing the physical meter with a completely different meter to replace the old one… This means added costs in re-wiring of electrical panels, or in most cases, completely new electrical metering panels.
SATEC were the first manufacturer to achieve the NMI M6-1 accreditation in a DIN-RAIL Smart Meter. SATEC also remain the only supplier to provide the Australian market with a multi-channel metering system solving the problem when there is no physical space for a new metering panel.
Unlike other manufacturers, an upgrade path exists for Grandfathering Certificate installed metering and the adopted change in Australian regulatory requirements.
SATEC model EM133XM + BFM136 provide solutions necessary when needing NMI Patent Approved meters calibrated by ISO17025 processes under the NITP-14 verification methods as mandated by NMI.
